What do the travellers say

It was a jump in the infinite green of the world. I could never imagine that I would land on sacred ground like the Alter do Chão and Tapajós National Forest, even less that I would meet people who would stay in my life forever and that my experience with the inhabitants of the region would impel me to take one of the most important steps of the my life.

I always wanted to know Chapada dos Veadeiros and I must admit that it could not have been with different people. The expedition was prepared with great care and, through community-based tourism, strengthened small businesses in the region by creating a very deep experience with the community. I’m sure I will participate in other experiences!

I heard sounds for the first time, I had visions that until then were only recorded by images and became real there. A fantastic feeling, an indescribable nature, a strong people. I felt even more Brazilian when I got to know our country in its Amazonian essence, in its diversity and community. Vivalá Amazônia, Rio Negro and Acajatuba! You will never leave my mind and my heart.

Being between the dunes and lagoons of Lençóis Maranhenses was like visiting another planet, in a landscape unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Even more special was the experience of volunteering with local people, understanding their challenges and helping them to improve their quality of life. Being part of that was inspiring and unforgettable.

I had never travelled alone before in my life. I arrived and immediately found amazing people who were on the same vibe as I was. And the trip that would be solo, turned into an encounter with new people I would never meet in my life. Learning more about the original people; watch the sunrise; lying in the hammock and feeling the wind blowing, breathing deeply, listening only to the birds singing. Just being ALIVE! I have returned, but my heart stayed there, in that magical little spot.

It is hard to put into words what this experience was. A week living unforgettable moments with the Shanenawa people in their land. A joyful, brave people, welcoming, fun, respectful of the forest and conscious of its grandiosity, who sing, dance. There have been so many moments that I still catch myself reflecting on how transformative this trip was. My chest tightens with longing since the moment of departure, but the heart is still warm because I now have my forest family! Soon I will be back to hug and dance together around the bonfire! I am eternally grateful to the Amazonian people.

Travelling with Vivalá was amazing! In just a few days I had very different experiences. The interaction with the communities, the culture, the history of the place and the contact with nature make each expedition unique. It is a deep immersion in our beautiful country.

Vivalá opened my eyes to the possibilities and benefits of sustainable and community-based tourism. Coming into contact with the different realities of the traditional and original populations of Brazil broadens our view of the country and exposes the potential we have as a nation. I was transformed and I hope that many other people will be too.
